Zhen’s research interests focus on metabolic engineering, synthetic biology, and the integration of biological and chemical catalysis for the sustainable production of valuable chemicals. He is particularly interested in developing innovative strategies to expand the biosynthetic capabilities of engineered microorganisms. Outside the lab, he enjoys working out, hiking, traveling, and exploring new places.

Yifei Song (宋毅飞), MSE Student

Yifei was born in Henan, China and grew up in Guangzhou. He likes reading, listening to music, and playing video games. During his undergraduate years, he was involved in research in environmental engineering and synthetic biology. His current research interests are metabolic engineering, as well as the fields of enzymes and proteins.

Shannon spent three years in Beijing and one year in Syracuse through an undergraduate cohort program. She is interested in protein and peptide design, particularly using computational tools to study protein structure and interactions. Outside the lab, she enjoys playing the piano and rhythm games.

Cat assistant who majors in sleeping, eating, purring and biting Dan when he feels like it. Occasionally he takes care of Dan in return by asking him to play together and kindly trying to share food.
